Studying the effect of Principles of utilitarian ethics on improvement and
sustainable development of communities from the perspective of Holy Quran

Abstract

Morality scholars consider all moral virtues originated from the four virtues of
"modesty", "courage", "wisdom" and "equity". Based on the data obtained from library
studies and by using descriptive-analytical method, this article, seeks to study and
explain the role of these principles of utilitarian ethics on improvement and sustainable
development of communities from the perspective of Holy Quran. The results of this
research shows that modesty suppress the extravagance and the waste of society capital
and makes the bed for "maximum production and minimum consumption" .And the
intellectual and cultural development of humanity is because of the courage of the
prophets and their true followers. And the courage of scholars causes the scientific and
philosophical development of society. Also, the economic development of society and
the establishment of justice - as the important indicator of sustainable development - is
impossible without courage virtue. Another result is that the more society is adorned
with wisdom in all its forms, the more it improves and develops, and finally, the virtue
of "equity" which is the combination of the other virtues, has an existential relationship
with the virtue of "piety". And by establishing temperance at the soul facilities it
provides the bases of individual and society improvement and development.
